DAY
TWENTY ONE
Date: 6th July 2014
Day: Sunday
Time: 14:54
Weather: Usual hottie-sunny
你好。I’m currently sitting in Forum Robinsons’ Starbucks (our
first time in PH’s SB) typing this while listening to Jack Johnson’s chill
music and am surrounded by the rich Filipinos chilling their Sunday afternoon
away. Behind this glass door I just saw a homeless old man eating leftover
fries at Macs. Two different worlds, all in the same place. I guess every
country has this. But it’s a little too common and obvious here though L
Today, Kim and I are living a balanced lifestyle. Firstly,
we woke up our record latest at 9.40am today (!!!) We’ve been waking up at 6am
everyday I got a shock seeing 9+ today haha. Paid back all our sleep debts.
Started the day with grapes and pandesal (best before’s today haha), did a bit
of work and a bit of slacking while Kim went to wash her clothes at the washing
machines here. When everything was done, we left for Robinsons, our nearest
shopping mall because it is only one jeepney ride away YAYYYY no squeezing on
trains ahhhh J
Tried out Korean dumpling soup and kimchi at the food court
here! The dumpling soup was actually milk soup so I… only ate the dumplings,
milk was too strong L
Kimchi was good though hehe. We headed over to National Book Store to get our
art materials for the next three days, as well as the cards we are going to
make for the orgs and our buddies.
And then I’m broke hahaha. Zero notes at all. Because we
were facing the cinema while eating just now, Kim asked if we should catch a
movie. YES of course we should LOL, whoohoo going to catch ‘Chef’ at 6.20pm
later, it’s free seating LOL P180, which is around SGD$5+, hopefully the movie
will be good!!!!! Even though I haven’t heard of it before. But we should max
out any good movies here rather than watch it back home, it’s twice the price! I’m
probably going to change SGD$5 later at the money exchange place haha.
(BACK) The movie… was 2 stars. HAHAHA ok la the playlist was
good, the story was cute, but flat haha zero climax, zero anything. Smooth
smooth sailing journey of a chef. The movie theatre was EMPTY, like we booked
the whole place hahaha there were less than 5 people and it’s free seating so
we sat RIGHT in the MIDDLE with the best view. Seats were ambiguously
mysteriously dirty tho hahaha, but I’m happy with everything! J
DAY
TWENTY TWO
Date: 7th July 2014
Day: Monday
Time: 08:28 of 8th
July
Weather: Bright & sunny
Helloooo J
It’s a bright sunny Tuesday morning and I’m currently still
in the dorm, because today is not exactly a morning day: we got to get to the
mental hospital, decorate the place and then make our way to KAISAKA for an
afternoon event! Gna set off at 9.30, before it gets too late.
Yesterday was area visiting in the morning and early
intervention class in the afternoon! Area visiting is always an eye opener. Six
patients with celebrial pulsy of different degrees...
We visited C.J again, the three year old boy and did lullaby
singing while the therapist interns do their work. Could only watch on and try
my best to make myself useful, and if not useful… just invisible will be good,
as long as I don’t block their way. (Sometimes, no, most of the time, I wonder
about the worth of a Business degree. Worth 什么呢?)
When I thought I’ve seen the worst, it always gets
redefined. A house so narrow you got to crab-walk in; A house with stairs so
steep and high, we have no idea how the child will be able to ever get out of
house because she is so tall and grown up. This same house has a limited space
for the fifteen year old, she sleeps on the wooden floor and because of the
small area available, because of the lack of constant therapy, her knees are
already locked in a fixed position, almost 90 degrees bent. It was difficult
getting her to stretch and relax her tensed muscles because she really haven’t
been doing it all these years; A house in pitch black darkness we need to use
torchlight from phones. There wasn’t any ventilation as well, you can feel the
still dense air. Everytime I witness these scenes I feel so… useless and empty.
I feel like I’m going to cry anytime. Some parents don’t see the need of
therapy, they see their child’s case as a hopeless one, or either that, they
are really too busy to care for their many children, and find no time to bring
their child to the centre for proper therapy. We remind them and inform them
again and again, they nod in agreement, I won’t be here anymore to witness them
actually going to the centre, so here’s me wishing that it will actually
happen.
After area visiting, we headed to 7/11 to grab a really
quick lunch (chicken sandwich) because early intervention class was suddenly
pushed forward in timing. EIC was a mess omg I’m so sorry. There were around 5
children and plans didn’t work out because of the various conditions they were
in. We wanted to do a kiddy dance and some art activities like paper dolls but
it was impossible to control the situation. We had two older (around 5/6 years
old) children, a girl with autism and a boy with down syndrome. I was too busy
following the boy around, because he couldn’t concentrate and keep exploring
the whole place, crawling below tables, typing on the computer, jumping… Tried
doing the dance, and OMG we got their attention for about half a minute while
they watch the vid on my laptop but half a minute was up and they lost
attention again. Other younger children played ball and drew on coloured paper.
Didn’t see this coming, feel very bad and sorry L
EIC ended and the children left after their mums were done with the meeting.
There will be another EIC tomorrow, may it be a more successful one please!
I’ve loaded my com with many more nursery rhymes, crossing fingers!!!
Went to Ayala Glorietta 5 after we were done to get a board
for KAISAKA from the National Book Store, and also wanted to do sugaring but
the lady said the hair was too… short omg I’m supposed to have 2 weeks long of
hair that’s like a hairy monster leh hahaha. But okay la, save money lor! Ate
at Maxs Restaurant, was sooooooo bloated after that, but not bad a meal J Headed back to the
dorm quite early at around 7! J
DAY
TWENTY THREE
Date: 8th July 2014
Day: Tuesday
Time: 17:54
Weather: Shady
Back at Holly’s Coffee again!!! Café de Seoul is closed, so
here we are with the wifi J
and the Americano. And the laptop.
(I got distracted and sian and stopped blogging once I typed
that hahaha so now I’m back at the hostel and it’s 23:51 already because
Michael our roommate and us talked and slacked till now)
Suffering from some mini stomach ache now noooo!!! The pain
is on and off; I think it was the chili from the dimsum restaurant that we went
for dinner!!!! L
ambiguous chili and chili oil thing how can you do this to me! Meanwhile, while
I battle with this chili stomach ache, I shall blog and not lag behind my post.
Need to do a random exclamation: FREAKING THREE MORE NIGHTS TO SINGAPORE MY
LOVE OF MY LIFE (!!!)
Back about today: We started the day at around 9am, heading
to the Mental Hospital in tricycle for P70! Hahaha the driver asked us how
much, (wah so shiok, price is we offer de leh LOL) so we said P50? Then he said
NO. 70. Then we ok can, and hopped on. Was telling Kim that 早知道 is
bargain lai bargain qu de then maybe we should start at P10 LOL. At the mental
hospital… all we did was to decorate the place with banners of fake flowers and
pasted some more triangle party banners deco on the walls. The place had SO
MANY MOSQUITOS, I was just standing there with my bag and there were FIVE
mozzies around me. Buzzing around, dangerous creatures. I tried to avoid them
as much as possible by moving around haha. After the deco is up and done, we’re
ready to go! Didn’t have time for lunch because transport always eats up all
our time so it was 7/11 for lunch again! Tuna Cheesemelt bun for P20 only J
Dance session at KAISAKA failed again, today’s group of
children were the non-enthu and more-shy group except one girl, so we only did
one short dance and quickly proceeded onto the art and craft activity. Got the
children to draw out their hands and deco them, so that we can paste all the
children’s hands onto this tree we drew on a big white foam board. So the
volunteer staff’s hands will form the tree trunks while the children’s form the
tree leaves. Taught them how to do paper dolls after they were done, plus we
sang some nursery rhymes, esp the tagalog ones so they could sing along J
Day ended at 3! Can’t believe the whole art thing took 2
hours, didn’t feel that long. Walked to usual café de Seoul which failed us
again- closed L
So yup Holly’s Coffee as I mentioned J
which was not bad too, it’s a Korean café like café the Seoul, and filled with
Korean students and Korean playlist. Kim was saying that if we close our eyes,
we can temporarily be transported into the land of Korea. Super true hahaha. Before
that I got my first ever pizza here in the PH for P60, which is about SGD$1.70?
LOL you can never find that cheap a pizza back home haha. Ham Supreme somemore
whoohoo but it took so long, Filipino serving time haha. Glad it’s thin crust
yummyyyyy.
Dinner was at the dimsum place we tried once, I got the
steamed tofu (again) and a pork chee cheong fun which was not pork but fat chee
cheong fun haha cheat feelings no pork, it’s pork’s fats only!!! The chili was
nice but it is also the cause of my stomach ache now T.T
Day ended with a talk with the roomies! Random again: I have
a mozzie attack on my feet and that sucks >:( but…
THREE MORE NIGHTS J
DAY
TWENTY FOUR
Date: 9th July 2014
Day: Wednesday
Time: 17:54
Weather: Bright
Hullo, happy mid week! J
Today’s gna be a jam packed day spammed with KAISAKA >
Outing with the volunteer staff > Meet up with Nerissa and her BF for
dinner! It’s currently 8.31am, am bloated full with a ¼ a watermelon from the
supermarket and a pandesal for breakfast. Been awake since 5.30 haha auto body
clock is doing its thing, waited till around 6.50 to officially get out of bed
–just in time for supermarket since it opens at 7! Thankful today isn’t a
morning day, we start officially at 1.30pm.
(12:40am) BACK!!! From a crazy long day. Humpty Dumpty
nursery rhyme is now playing in my head, non-stop since EIC hahahaha. Here to
declare that I had a VERY AWESOME DINNER and my tummy is now IN CLOUD NINE.
(use of vocab- double tick) But let’s
start from the beginning!
Headed over to Kanto Freestyle Breakfast, the yummy famous
place near our dorm, with the new EP Jennifer from Indonesia and her buddy! My pandesals
are expiring tomorrow, so I brought them along to eat tgt with fav eggs (<3)
Got myself scrambled eggs and sunny side up for P50, around SGD$1+ only, worth
the deal J
Then it started pouring like crazy, we had to go indoors to eat instead (of cos
LOL), thankfully it was the 5 min version of rain and not the 5 hours version!
There are two types here in the PH haha. After breakfast, we headed back to
pack abit and had to leave again at noon to KAISAKA!
SHITTTTTTTTTTTTT TWO MEN
ARE SMOKING IN FRONT OF ME NOW T.T TOO STRONG, SMELLY SECOND HAND SMOKE
NOOO L
I just pulled up my shirt to cover my
nose hahaha, blocking out some smelliness (Y) Back to story telling –brought
new EP to KAISAKA and we did helping out of EIC, it’s thankfully more
controlled this time yay. There were five children, all boys one girl, autistic
girl had a more difficult time concentrating but at least she smiled, I read
that as a sign that she’s happy haha. There was a boy who was so afraid
initially, I had to say bye bye!!! To him so many times because he was scared
of me too. BUT!!! When we started the class and played incy wincy spider he was
SO HAPPY he stood up, clapped along to the song and laughed. YAY J The theme of the
lesson was parts of the face, so I drew out different parts like eyes, ears,
nose, mouth for them to paste onto the blank face. Ok at least the objective
was met :’) The children got the parts of the face thing yay again! J
Gave KAISAKA staff the book we made for them, and we all
walked to Robinsons nearby for a meal at KFC! Kim and my treat to all the kind
aunties at KAISAKA. (But so hurting leh, one of them said I look so different
from my FB profile pic which translates that I’m ugly) Thanked all of them for
the great times at KAISAKA, if I ever come back to the PH in the near future, I
will definitely visit them again!
Next up! RAIN, again! The 5 mins strong type again. Teacher
Alsa walked us to the LRT, and we headed to EDSA to meet Nerissa and her BF! J And tadahhh the epic
journey began. The bus ride was SO LONG It felt like I’m taking a bus from SG
to Johor LOL, traffic jam was traffic ‘stop’ hahaha. We were in the bus for as
long as an hour+, because we met Nerissa at 6, but finally reached the venue at
8.20 HAHAHA.
Ahhhh but it was worth it. Really worth it! I got myself the
enchanted burger, since we are at the Enchanted Farm Café, and yes, I am
enchanted by both the place and food :’D The burger was so special I’ve never
tasted anything like that before. Patty was made up of mainly veg, but there
was also pork covering it. Sweet potato fries with super yummy special mayo was
also equally amazing. A pity we reached so late and soon we had to leave
because the staff was practically just waiting for us to end so they can close.
Bought back many stuff from the café, gna bring them to SG! J
Finally arrived back in the dorm at 11+, tired as usual
haha. I’ve got roomie outing tomorrow to Kanto Freestyle Breakfast again at
8.30 > UST meet up with Andy at noon > probably a meet up with Foundation
AWIT.
Hereby declare that… ONLY ONE FREAKING DAY TO HOME J
